Basic rules in rugby.

I'm going to explain for those who want the basic rules in a rugby match.

First of all, in a rugby match the main goal is to put the ball behind the try line. With this gesture you win five points.

Secondly, after one try you have the posibility to kick the ball betwen the bars and above the horizontal bar to get two more points. It's called a penalty.

After when one player make a dangerous gesture or a false, the referee whistles and the team who undergoes the fault may attempt a penalty. The penalty is the same as penalty (after a try) but when you pass a penalty you get 3 points. When you are far away from the bars you can play the penalty by passing the ball to your team quickly.

These rules are only the basics rules to undestand how you get differents points in a rugby match.

  1. Thanks for this, Paul. I'll now concentrate on the game itself rather than just looking at their legs : )

  2. Thanks Paul. Can you also explain the scrum, why it happens and what they have to do? It always confuses me! Otherwise, I back France all the way of course! Allez Les Bleus! But I miss Chabal :-0 , he will always be my favourite!

  3. Hi Paul

At what age do children start to play rugby in France?

  4. Like Marie, I'd like you to explain the scrum - and also do you know the names of the different positions rugby players can play in?
That would really help me to understand.

    Great post so far!

    Cheers,

    Hannah
